Vietnamese and Korean Prime Ministers Witness Signing of Cooperation Agreement Between VNU and Seoul National University

On July 2, 2024, under the witness of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck Soo, VNU President Le Quan and Seoul National University (SNU) President Ryu Hong Lim exchanged documents on a cooperation agreement between the two universities, marking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to South Korea.

According to the agreement, VNU and SNU will collaborate in areas such as research, faculty and student exchanges. The universities will carry out specialized joint activities in fields like the semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence technology, promoting the development of Vietnamese studies in South Korea, talent development through programs for outstanding student exchanges and young scientists, among others.

The presence of Prime Ministers Pham Minh Chinh and Han Duck Soo highlights the profound interest and support of both governments, contributing to the promotion of cooperation between VNU and SNU in education and research. Leaders from both governments expect that this partnership will help to cultivate high-quality human resources to meet the development needs of both nations.

In the near future, SNU will work with VNU to advance a model of cooperation with businesses. Joint research centers between VNU, SNU, and Vietnamese and Korean companies will be a focus. The two universities will develop specific plans to realize commitments in high-quality human resource training and joint research on new technology transfers. Additionally, the universities will strengthen student and faculty exchange programs to create international learning and research opportunities for both students and faculty members.

As a leader in Vietnam’s higher education system, VNU was the first public institution to establish the Korean language and Korean Studies programs in 1993, shortly after the two countries established diplomatic relations. Currently, VNU faculty and experts are actively participating in projects aimed at popularizing and developing Korean language and culture research training within Vietnam’s educational system. In recent years, VNU has collaborated extensively in education and scientific research with top universities in Korea, including Seoul National University, and major tech corporations like Samsung, LG, Hyundai, and SK.

Previously, on June 22, 2023, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his spouse visited VNU and interacted with Korean language students during his official visit to Vietnam from June 22 to 24, 2023. President Yoon noted that VNU and SNU share similarities and are both significant institutions for nurturing talent for their respective nations. He expressed confidence that VNU would soon complete construction of its facilities and campus at its new site in Hoa Lac, in line with its stature as Vietnam’s leading university.
